I always need a project on the needles, and especially one where I don't need to look at the pattern! I named this 1 + 1 not only because it's super easy, but the fade effect is done with just 2 different colors.
You'll want to wind your skeins into center pull balls to start - two strands are held together throughout the project, and this makes it easy to pull from both the middle and outside when using two strands of the same color. If you want to split your skeins into two balls, split them 1/3 and 2/3.
The two skeins I used were June Cashmere Lace in color Scarlet and Hedgehog Fibres Cashmere Merino Lace in color Villian. You'll also need a 16" circular needle in size 8 or 9 (9 if you're a tight knitter - gauge is not important, but you do want a drapey fabric). My gauge was 18 sts over 4 inches in stockinette, holding two strands together). The finished dimensions are 25" circumference and 15" tall - but feel free to make it as tall as you'd like!
So many color options for this project! Because you hold one strand of each together in the center, you have the opportunity to blend colors to make something truly unique, so don't limit yourself to colors that "match". Need ideas? We are here to help!
Here are the instructions:
Using two strands June Cashmere Lace, cast on 110 stitches. Join to work in the round, careful not to twist. Place marker for beginning of round.
Purl one round, knit one round, purl one round.
Continue knitting every round (stockinette) until work measures 5" or you've used 2/3 of your skein.
Break off one strand, and join in one strand of Hedgehog Cashmere Merino. Holding these two strands together, continue working each round in stockinette until work measures 10" from beginning (or you've used up all of your first skein of yarn).
Break off your first yarn, and join in a second strand of Cashmere Merino. Continue working each round in stockinette until work measures 15" from beginning (or you have just a small amount of yarn left).
Purl one round, knit one round, purl one round. Bind off loosely. Weave in ends, block, and enjoy!
